Wesley United Methodist Church

What We Believe

Faith rooted in scripture, tradition, reason, and experience — the Wesleyan way.

As a United Methodist congregation, our theology is shaped by four sources that John Wesley called the Wesleyan Quadrilateral: Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience. Here are the core convictions that anchor our faith.

1

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God — the primary authority for Christian faith and practice. Scripture reveals God's story of love, redemption, and hope for all creation.

2

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three persons in one. God creates, redeems, and sustains all that exists.

3

Prevenient Grace

God's grace comes before any human response. Before we can seek God, God is already at work in every person's heart, drawing all people toward relationship.

4

Justifying Grace (Salvation)

We believe we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ — not by our own efforts. Christ's death and resurrection opens the way for forgiveness and new life.

5

Sanctifying Grace

God's grace doesn't stop at salvation. The Holy Spirit continually works to transform us — making us more like Christ — in a lifelong journey of growing in holiness.

6

Social Holiness

John Wesley taught that 'there is no holiness but social holiness.' Our faith must be lived out in service to others. We are called to care for the vulnerable, seek justice, and love our neighbors.

7

The Church

The church is the gathered community of believers who worship, serve, and support one another. We are Christ's body in the world — broken and beautiful, always growing.

8

The Sacraments

We celebrate two sacraments: Baptism (the sign of new life in Christ, open to all) and Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper, which we practice with an open table — all are welcome).

"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity."
